SMPTE set to push the screen industry future agenda
Australia’s central technology showcase for the media and entertainment industries SMPTE17 is focussing on connected media and the transformative ways it is reshaping the media landscape.
Shadow Minister for Communications, Michelle Rowland will deliver the keynote address tackling the very current industry issues surrounding the development of informed policy for transition to the future, including media reform, the content review, community television, spectrum issues, technology and standards evolution and the NBN.
The overall theme for SMPTE this year is “Embracing Connective Media”. A vast range of issues will be addressed including the economics of media and the commercial elements of media production, content, broadcasting, regulatory and developing technology issues.
The conference presenters, panelists, and exhibitors will discuss live streaming broadcast-quality video over commodity Internet networks and how automation can help the broadcast industry in meeting the demands of the new media landscape.

Goldman, President of SMPTE will lead an in-depth tutorial on IT architectures and provide an industry overview of the state of play. While Anna Lockwood from SMPTE will chair an exceptional panel of women technology and business leaders in Leading with Diversity – Women in Media and Technology.
A super session for sports broadcasting will also be featured in ‘Innovating for Sports Fans – Sports Broadcasting Technology Update’- an s interactive panel session that will focus on the latest technology developments in sports broadcasting in Australia, including remote production workflows, immersive and interactive technology, wearables, data analytics and artificial intelligence in sports, and OTT video delivery at scale.
The biennial SMPTE Conference, staged by the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers Australia Section, will be held at the International Convention Centre (ICC), Darling Harbour, Sydney from July 18 to 20.
